So you have a bright shiny new Website! What happens now? You’ve heard the old saying, “If you build it, they will come.” I say “old” saying because, in reference to Websites, this might have actually once been true. In the early 1990s when the Internet was making it’s first exploratory steps outside of its intended scientific and educational usage, there were few Websites (a MIT study reported a total of 623 sites at the end of 1993). This caused the small number of early “Web Surfers” to diligently look for new destinations to visit.
By no means should you be discouraged; these same statistics make another point … would there be almost a billion Websites in existence if they were not working (ie: not meeting their site owners’ objectives)? I think not! Just like most products and services, your Websites must be promoted. There are many ways to do this; all require time, money or both.
I’d like to help you make the most out of your efforts. This site discusses ten of the most popular Web marketing methods:
It also covers a non-marketing component that’s a vital tool in measuring your success from the above efforts:
The point is, you need balance in your marketing efforts and an opportunity to reach the widest possible constituency. Three or so marketing channels probably make sense. The key is careful advance study, starting with one channel, doing that one right and moving forward to the next. Recall another old saying, “Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.” I’d like to help your Web tree take root and prosper!
