What defines a successful project? If you pose that question to another Web design firm, as an example, they might say: “A modern Web design with engaging visuals and sound underlying technologies.” These are laudable objectives, to be sure, but if you posed that same question to me, I’d quickly reply “A Website that reaches your business goals and objectives.”
I’m Pat Riley. I offer Web design and many other services. Regardless of the type of service I might provide you, it comes with my commitment to work with you to reach your goals. I’m “seasoned” (older and wiser than I once was). I’ll always strive to give you what you want but to additionally offer advise about what you may not know you want. Let me recount a short client success story …
A Success Story!
Meet Troy Abram … he owns Abram Property Services, a Denver home remodeling contractor. Troy came to me from another client’s referral seeking pay-per-click (PPC) management services. “I’ve got a new Website,” he said, “I’m just not getting any visitors to it.”
PPC management is an art in itself (read more here) and I was confident I could help Troy. Part of effective PPC management is researching your advertising competitors. In doing so, I found Troy’s “new” site was substantially inferior compared to the competitive advertizes who would be surrounding his PPC ad. I advised Troy of this, in my mind, substantial issue.
Troy wasn’t concerned. “I don’t expect my Website to sell anything. I just want them to call and I’ll sell them.”
We proceeded with a sophisticated PPC advertising campaign (over 48,000 keyword phrases) financed by a relatively modest $150 per week advertising budget. After six weeks, the results were dismal … Troy was getting paid visitors to his site but had not received a single call!
We suspended his PPC advertising campaign and revisited my recommendation of a better Website and Troy was now ready. We worked collaboratively on how to build a superior home remodeling contractor Website. Troy has eight core competencies he wanted to sell … kitchen and bath remodels, attic conversions, basement finishes, room additions, etc. His potential clients all had a dream of an enhanced home environment they wanted to achieve. We decided to build a visual site designed to help his online visitors envision their dream by incorporating nine different slideshows on the site. We also wanted to improve Troys search engine optimization (SEO) by building individual “landing” pages for each of his major service offerings and a home page designed to attract non-specific general inquiries (you can read more about SEO services here).
We launched his new Website and turned his PPC advertising back on with the same $150 weekly budget. After about ten days, I received an obviously panicked voicemail from Troy: “Call me ASAP about my pay-per-click advertising!” With some trepidation I returned Troy’s call.
“You’ve got to turn my ads of IMMEDIATELY! I’ve been swamped with calls and have sold five new jobs. I’m fully committed for the foreseeable future and can’t take any more new work for at least the next six months!”
